Notes from the Treatment Table No. 1: You are not alone
I have a very special seat as an acupuncture practitioner. By getting to work with individuals, I get a sacred peek into our collective experience, some commonalities and threads that we all share. The insight is something that sustains and comforts me. It’s also information that at many times in my life, presently and in the past, I have longed for some other human to let me on to. So, I’m compelled to share a few tidbits every now and then, and we’ll see how they land.
Notes from the Treatment Table No. 1: You are not alone
No matter how isolated we may be, no matter how lonely we feel, the truth is that we are not alone. Classical Chinese medicine is based on the interconnectedness of all things. This fabric of interconnection is always an inherent aspect of our experience.
I get the honor of seeing this lived out with the people I have the privilege of working with. We have common core wounds, we have common struggles and fears. We may have different symptom pictures or different personal reactions to them, but we have some shared collective experiences. Many of us have felt misunderstood or failed by our conventional medical system. We have felt not believed or trusted to know what is true about our bodies. We aren’t alone in our experience.
I’ll be the first to tell you that this is something I have waves of doubt around and have to remind myself multiple times a day to center in this reality. It’s hard to remember.
But, what if we could remember?
What would be more possible for you, for us, if we knew we were not alone and that we were inherently connected? What kind of healthcare, community care, and healing could be possible?
