Something Other Than the Typical Response.

Dr. Leon Hammer has anointed practitioners with the call of meeting our patients with something other than the typical response. This is the call because this is healing.

When the root causes of illness of our time are capitalism, imperialism, and white supremacy, we cannot count on medicine that perpetuates these systems for our healing.

Our conventional healthcare system often doesn’t see us for our full selves. It often ignores or forgets that we are whole, interconnected people with interconnected bodies inside of interconnected communities. Conventional medicine fails to see all of our community and instead centers whiteness, cis-ness, heteronormativity, and those with more financial resources. Our conventional healthcare system can and has caused much harm and trauma.

I am committed to offering healthcare that centers you. I trust that you know way more about you, your experience, and your body than any doctor could know (including myself). I believe that you and your body innately know how to heal. I know that our ancestors and communities have been coming together to heal for much longer than our current medical system has existed.

I believe that we heal in relationship. The work we do together in the treatment room ripples out into your relationships and communities.

I also believe that in order for each of us to truly heal and transform we must organize to change the conditions of the world we live in.

It is a tall order to transform. And you know what… I believe that we will. It is what we do. Our bodies are always brilliantly leaning towards healing and oriented towards being alive. My job is to support and shine light on this process which can open possibilities for symptoms to shift and for you to meet them in new ways.

All of this is to say: I am wholeheartedly committed to meeting you with something other than the typical response for the sake of our transformation and healing.
