We are kindred currents.
“When you are born into this life, it's like you're born into a moving stream or a moving river of energies and where you enter that stream will then influence what you encounter during your stay on this planet.” - Dr. Brenda Hood
I step into the river over here, and you over there, and our ancestors maybe up the river over there, and the folks whose movement shoulders we’re standing on down there. We are kindred currents.
Currents aren’t linear. They’re meandering. They change speed, become obstructed, and sometimes catch air. Just like healing. The only way to get a glimpse of the process of healing is to zoom out from current view to whole river view.
We are kindred currents.
You and I.
Your body self, emotional self, and spiritual self.
Our historical and present day social movements.
Our families, our chosen kin, our ancestors.
Everything that exists.
Growing up near the Mississippi, I’d run to its banks for comfort. No matter what it was, nothing could quell my fear and unrest more than the river. I already knew. The older I grew the more I heard it- the River metaphor repeated back to me. A symbol building aged layers of meaning over years and years, continually passed on between us til that moment that the next one of us steps into the river to inherit it.
There is wisdom in kindred currents. A known security, a place that is inviolate. We are connected and together. We cannot be alone. Your healing influences mine, influences ours, influences past and future. We are kindred currents.
Kindred Currents is the beautiful struggle to put this theory into praxis.
